Also today I want to get out of the usual introductions to go and analyze the Rolex GMT-Master 16750 No Date, a great classic.
It is also one of the most sought-after, desired and why not, overpriced GMTs on the market.

This reference can be called transitional in that it was the watershed between plexi and sapphire crystals.

The Rolex GMT-Master 16750 was born in 1981 and included 2 other variants: the 16753 in steel-gold and the 16758 in gold.
This reference replaced the Rolex 1675, from which it differs (but only from the second half of the 1980s) in having a polished dial and “small glass” hour markers.What are small glasses? They are the hour markers framed by a thin white gold wire with luminescent tritium inside.
The novelties, however, were mostly hidden inside, where we find the new Rolex caliber 3075.
This movement also included an increase in alternations per hour, which went from 19,600 to 28,800.
The most noticeable novelty, however, concerned the setting of the date display, which in this case became a quick-release, which I call “backwards,” because the crown has to be turned toward 6 o’clock to put it back.

The Rolex GMT-Master 16750 was the last model to mount the plexi crystal.
Interestingly, the reference 16758 (in gold) was the only one to mount the sapphire crystal.
It was not until 1988 that the new Rolex GMT-Master model with reference 16700 was launched.

The “No Date” dial represents the transition in Ref. 16750 from pallets to bicchierini dials.
In fact in the first bicchierini dials ,exactly like the pallets dials ,we have under the Rolex inscription the words “Oyster Perpetual”.
In the later bicchierini dials it becomes “Oyster Perpetual Date,” about 1985.
